Kiwanis Club of Tampa
We believe in helping children stay healthy and making sure they receive they are protected. That’s why our club works with the Hillsborough County Immunization Task Force on the “Be Wise—Immunize” program. School-aged children receive free immunizations, provided they have their immunization records. Physicals also are free also to any school-aged (K-12) child entering Florida schools for the first time. This program does not include sport physicals, Head Start or Child Care.
Services are provided irrespective of income level, although the majority of participants come from low-income families. The event also is an opportunity to make people aware of the availability of health resources for low-income residents.
The Be Wise—Immunize” events are busy and rewarding. Last year's event served more than 700 students. As part of the program, we also help eligible mothers and their children register to receive WIC benefits at “Be Wise—Immunize” events. Our club members help register and direct people, with some interpreting and translating for families that speak another language. We always need volunteers to help in translation; if you are interested in volunteering, contact us.
